Wednesday night, the Chicago Cubs won the baseball World Series in Game 7 against the Cleveland Indians, at Cleveland’s Progressive Field.  Their victory is a huge deal since the last time they won the World Series was at the beginning of the last century, in 1908.  The Chicago Cubs’ home stadium, Wrigley Field, now proudly sports the sign “World Series Champions.”

There were some famous faces at the Cubs Vs. Indians game, including Bill Murray, Charlie Sheen, Amy Schumer, John Cusack, Eddie Vedder and Tom Morello.  Bill Murray definitely takes the cake for biggest Cubs fan of the evening.  After the Cubs won, Murray visited their locker room to interview the players and chug champagne with them.

Many more Hollywood celebrities tuned in to the Cubs game last night on TV, and shared their excitement via social media.  Seth Rogen, Stephen Colbert, Olivia Wilde, and even President Obama were among the many that took to Twitter to tweet their elation at the Cubs’ triumph.

FISHER STEVENS, DIRECTOR OF “BEFORE THE FLOOD” STARRING, LEONARDO DICAPRIO ADMITS, "I'VE NEVER BEEN A FAN OF TRUMP!"

Victor Hugo/Getty Images

Victor Hugo/Getty Images

Oscar winner, LEONARDO DICAPRIO Executive Produced a Movie You Wanna Watch, "BEFORE THE FLOOD” which is a necessary look at how climate change affects the environment and what society can do to prevent its demise.  The compelling documentary was directed by actor, FISHER STEVENS and stars Oscar winner DiCaprio, who let’s be honest, could convince most fans to eat crickets if he said that would help save the world.

THE WANNA host, Gina Glickman Giordan, had a first look at “Before the Flood” and recently sat down with Fisher for an exclusive interview at Guild Hall on Main Street in East Hampton during the 2016 annual Hamptons International Film Festival.  It was three years ago when DiCaprio picked up the phone to ask Fisher if he would direct the film.  Fisher revealed, "It's been a long journey.  We went everywhere from Greenland, to the Arctic, to India, to China, to Sumatra, to Palau.  We went all around the world, figuring out- and then we interviewed, I mean there were a lot of people we interviewed that didn’t even make the film, that you didn’t even see, that are amazing people."   Fisher made a point to share that the only thing more important then getting the film made was the timing of the premiere which was crucial, "There's a presidential election coming up and it was important to Leo and I that we get this out before the election, because if somebody’s elected President, or certain people are elected in the Senate or certain people are elected into Congress that want to crush a lot of the work that President Obama is doing right now on trying to curb carbon emissions then, we’re all in deep trouble.  Not just in India and China, but all around."

Stevens revealed the details of why he agreed to take on the film, “When Leonardo asked me to make this film with him, I said, okay let’s go, we gotta keep it going, because it’s happening.  And we’re at this time in history of mankind, where we have to really start to change the way we get our power and live our lives.”  Stevens admitted, he wasn’t always friends with DiCaprio and describes how their movie making partnership was born, “We weren’t that close to be honest.  We knew each other for years but not that well.  We kind of bonded on a diving trip.  We went to the Galapagos Islands together and went diving.  I was filming Sylvia Earl, the marine biologist.  He was on the trip.  I didn’t know at that point his knowledge of environmental issues.  He knows more about species then most people.  He could tell you about a tiger or lion, things that you have no idea.  But also species that have been extinct.”  Stevens joked DiCaprio is so well educated on the topic and “can go on and on” that there was one scene Fisher says he was forced to cut Leonardo down for time, “Yeah, we trimmed that scene.”

National Geographic

National Geographic

There are several memorable movie moments in “Before the Flood” including when they went behind the scenes while Leonardo was filming his Oscar winning performance in “The Revenant.”  Fisher explains why going behind the scenes on “The Revenant,” was bittersweet and said, “It was sad but it was great for our film.  Yet, it was sad for the world that life is imitating art.  They had the warmest March in the history of that area in Canada.  All their snow melted.  So they had to go somewhere else to finish the film.”

In “Before the Flood,” DiCaprio sits down one on one to interview the Pope.  Stevens said working with the Vatican threw the crew a few surprises along the way, “Well, there’s a little secret there.  I was there, but I wasn’t allowed to film.  They took my camera.  We knew that.  So, the Pope has his own people- he had his own people to film that scene."  When you watch the film, you may notice how DiCaprio, greets Pope Francis and sounds a tad nervous.  That may be because twelve hours before DiCaprio was scheduled to interview the Pope  Fisher said that's when his team revealed another surprise, "You’ve gotta greet him in Italian" described Fisher. "But, we were there and that was pretty magical.”  In the film, DiCaprio recounts his memorable meeting with Pope Francis, “Being able to spend time and sit with the pope was a pretty profound experience.”  He goes on to reiterate what the pope said, “he feels we need to all keep speaking out” about climate change “as loud as we can.”  It's obvious by the final cut of the film that Stevens and DiCaprio also had a magical rapport working together.  DiCaprio was hands on through out the process of creating the film and brought "tons" of ideas to the post process, Fisher explained, "I mean in the editing room too he had a great idea.  The Pope scene, we moved it to the end, that was his idea.  Which was a great idea.  We were partners making the film."

Fisher admitted one of his biggest concerns about the upcoming election is electing a leader who agrees our environment is at great risk and mankind can help make a change.  You remember Trumps "locker room" behind the scenes banter with former, “Access Hollywood” host, Billy Bush?  Well, Fisher told us his reaction to Trumps remarks and said, "It didn’t surprise me.  I had problems with Donald Trump before he was even running for President.  As a New Yorker, because I lived in New York most of my life and to see his name and what he’s doing to these ugly buildings and you know his crass Trump everywhere.  It bugged me just like that.  I’ve never been a fan of Trump!”  Stevens and DiCaprio are both hoping "Before the Flood,” will convince Trump and the rest of the world, to change their beliefs on climate change!

Uploaded by The Wanna on 2016-10-28.

In addition to watching the film and learning why it’s crucial to pass a carbon tax to help curb carbon emissions, Fisher says anyone can help do their part to make a change and help save the environment and said, “We can eat less meat, elect different leaders and we can start powering our world differently.”

“Before the Flood” is a Movie You Wanna Watch and premieres on The National Geographic Channel, October 30th, 9/8c.

If you miss the Sunday premiere, watch the film online until November 6th on Natgeotv.com video on demand (through MVPD set-top boxes), MVPD sites and apps, Nat Geo TV apps, iTunes, Hulu, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Sony PlayStation, GooglePlay and more.

LIVE WITH KELLY & KELLY?

Should Ripa fans (that's us) expect to see another big show change in the New Year?  Apparently, ABC recently announced that on November 9th, the day after America votes for our next President, the November 9th episode of "Live! With Kelly" hosted by the one and only, Kelly Ripa, will also be co-hosted by Fox News host, Megyn Kelly!  The news was officially tweeted by the "Live! With Kelly" official Twitter account:

Twitter, @LiveKelly

Twitter, @LiveKelly

We do know the last time the network made a change, Ripa was the last to know but, this time it sounds like those execs have learned their lesson and will treat Ms. Ripa with the utmost respect she deserves!  Point is, it's no secret that Ripa and the show team have been on the hunt for a replacement co-host ever since Michael Strahan left Live! in May 2016.

The question is, does Ripa even need a "full time" co-host?

America's morning show sweetheart is killing it on her own!  Ripa has been keeping fans entertained with a round robin of guest co-hosts including Anderson Cooper, Fred Savage, hubby Mark Consuelos, Kevin Hart, and Andy Cohen, to name a few.  There has been plenty of speculation about who will fill the seat next to Ripa, but no official decision has been made.

Live! With Kelly, YouTube

Live! With Kelly, YouTube

It is still possible the Nov. 9th "Kelly and Kelly" episode could be a test for fans.  Megyn is no stranger to pulling in prime time ratings.  The lawyer is the host of The Kelly File on the Fox News Channel weekday nights.  Megyn's prior hosting gig was, America Live and America’s Newsroom.  Kelly was also included in Time’s 2014 list of 100 most influential people.  Megyn is a political commentator, and will no doubt discuss the outcome of the election on November 9th with Ripa.  Her political prowess could bring a whole new perspective to the conversation on Live!  The WANNA would love to see these two intelligent, powerful ladies host a show together!  Double the blondes equals double the fun!

The Live! With Kelly guests on November 9th are Naomi Watts and Michael Ealy.  Be sure to tune in on November 9th to catch Kelly and Kelly together!

BEST CELEB TWEETS FROM THE FINAL CLINTON VS. TRUMP DEBATE

Joe Raedle/AP

Joe Raedle/AP

Millions of Americans tuned into CNN last night to watch Clinton and Trump fight dirty during the final Presidential debate, at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.  The moderator, registered Democrat, Fox News Host, Chris Wallace kicked off the debate with a "take no prisoners" attitude.  Wallace stuck to the script for the most part and kept the candidates in line.  The "nasty" back and forth zingers between Trump and Hill didn't disappoint.

Trump called Clinton, “a nasty woman,” and Clinton called Trump a “puppet.”  Americans will miss watching the entertaining and controversial exchanges between Trump and Hill.  Yes, we can thank Trump for his unconventional approach to politics.  But, all the fun isn't over just yet.  You can bet the debate will continue online.  Donald does love to lash out during his late night tweet sessions.  Trump isn't the only one tweeting politics.  Twitter has been a major resource for the entire nation during this election.   Numerous famous faces have voiced their opinions via Twitter.  The WANNA has been following the celebrity tweets posted each presidential debate.  The final debate generated some serious anti-Trump celebrity tweets.

Aaron Paul attacked Trump’s grammar and tweeted, “Very much smarter. –Trump.”  Others blatantly tweeted their support for Hillary.  Patton Oswalt tweeted, “Hillary trying not to laugh at Pasty McHonky saying 'hombre.'"

CRITICS SLAM MATT LAUER ON TWITTER FOR LAST NIGHT'S ONE ON ONE INTERVIEWS WITH CLINTON AND TRUMP!

Andrew Harnik via Talking Points Memo

Andrew Harnik via Talking Points Memo

On Wednesday night, the “Today” show host, Matt Lauer moderated the primetime, NBC News “Commander-in-Chief Forum” conducting two separate thirty-minute interviews, first with Hillary Clinton and second with Donald Trump.  Clinton lost in the coin toss so Trump made her go first.

Several media critics ripped into Lauer’s line of questioning and even his overall behavior, during the primetime NBC News forum via Twitter.

Lauer was first criticized for his choice to question Clinton about the private email server issue.  This discussion lasted 10 minutes, which caused him to later shorten the conversation on ISIS.  When an audience member asked Clinton to explain her plans to defeat ISIS, Lauer interrupted and said, “As briefly as you can.”  Political commentator Norman Ornstein tweeted, “It is amazing. Lauer interrupted Clinton's answers repeatedly to move on. Not once for Trump. Tough to be a woman running for President.”

Lauer was also criticized for his questions directed at Trump.  Lauer asked Trump his opinion about the war in Iraq, to which Trump responded, “I was totally against the war in Iraq.”  But earlier, Clinton had referenced an interview Trump previously had with Howard Stern in which Trump said he supported the war.  Ezra Klein, Founder of Vox.com, tweeted, “It’s not a great idea, in general, for journalists to let politicians get away with bald-faced, on-camera lies."

Former aide to President Obama, Tommy Vietor, tweeted, “How in the hell does Lauer not factcheck Trump lying about Iraq? This is embarrassingly bad.”

Many other media critics took to Twitter to share their outrage and dislike for Lauer’s performance.

Former President Obama speechwriter, Jon Favreau tweeted, “I don't blame Lauer for asking the email question. But it's ABSURD that he started off with Trump, ‘Why should you be Commander-in-Chief?’”

New York Magazine columnist, Jonathan Chait tweeted, “Trump lies about opposing Iraq war. Lauer lets it go. No follow up. Unreal.”

Will Saletan, a writer at Slate tweeted “Lauer has done great interviews. But that's one of the weakest, least incisive performances I've seen from a presidential forum moderator.”

New York Times columnist, Nicholas Kristof, summed up the general consensus in his tweet, “This #NBCNewsForum feels like an embarrassment to journalism. It's about soundbites, not serious discussion of foreign policy.”

This past Monday evening, pop star and longtime LGBT activist, Lady Gaga joined thousands of mourners in Los Angeles at City Hall, honoring the victims of the Pulse nightclub tragedy.

The iconic and outspoken performer gave an emotional speech and read off each of the names of the victims, while she fought back tears.  Gaga directed her words at the entire LGBT community and said, “I hope you know that myself and so many are your allies. Not only me, but everyone here. We represent the compassion and the loyalty of millions of people around the world that believe in you. You are not alone, you are not alone.”

In addition to Gaga's heartfelt speech at Monday’s vigil, she also posted on Instagram the photo below:

It’s no surprise to Gaga fans that she came out to support.  She’s been a long-standing advocate for the LGBT community for years.

In 2009, Gaga appeared on the cover of Out magazine and she used the cover interview as an opportunity to discuss her stance on LGBT culture.  Gaga revealed, “I very much want to inject gay culture into the mainstream.  It's not an underground tool for me. It's my whole life. So, I always sort of joke the real motivation is to just turn the world gay.”

In 2012, she created a video message and addressed Maine, Minnesota, Washington, and Maryland about the vote for marriage equality.  She says in the clip, “I just wanted to remind those of you who live in Maine, Minnesota, Washington, or Maryland that you can actually vote for marriage equality on the ballot this year,” using her fame as a popular musician to get the word out.  Check out the video here:

When the U.S. Supreme Court passed marriage equality in 2012, Gaga took to Twitter with a photo and captioned it, “#Lovewins over prejudice.”

Gaga's Grammy nominated song, “Born This Way,” sends clear messages of acceptance and appreciation for the LGBT community.  “Born This Way” was the first top hit on Billboard charts to include the word “transgenders” in the lyrics.

In March 2011, the pop star made a deal with Target stores in which she would only allow them an exclusive release of the Born This Way album if they ended dealings with anti-gay groups, and contributed to LGBT charities.  She stated, "Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the past ... our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made supporting those [antigay] groups."

Donald Trump addressed thousands at the 2016 Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference in Washington, D.C.  He had a more subdued speech than usual, until a group of protesters interrupted him and shouted things like, “No hate” and “Refugees are welcome here."  Trump let the protesters finish their official interruption and even smiled and said, "A little freedom of speech!"  Then he quickly stated, “These are professional agitators sent here by the other party.”

Earlier in the day, Clinton supporters gathered in Washington, D.C. at "The Planned Parenthood Action Fund" event.  Clinton's speech went over without a hitch.  She took several jabs at Trump and at one point stated, that his plan for making America great again is code for, "Let's take America backward."  Clinton went on while the crowd erupted in cheers and applause, "When abortion was illegal, women had far fewer options and life for too many women and girls was limited.  Well, Donald, those days are over!”

This Planned Parenthood speech comes just days after Hillary Clinton won the Democratic nomination in the 2016 Presidential race.  Clinton has since gained the support of several Hollywood A-listers and most recently, President Barack Obama.

Just yesterday, Obama endorsed Clinton for President by posting a video that fully supported Clinton as the official 2016 Democratic Presidential candidate.  Obama stated, "I don't think there has ever been someone so qualified to hold this office."  Trump immediately blasted Obama and tweeted, “Obama just endorsed Crooked Hillary. He wants four more years of Obama—but nobody else does!”  Clinton did not back down from the insults, retorting with a tweet, “Delete your account. @DonaldTrump.”

Several Hollywood A-listers also took to Twitter to show their support for Clinton.

Pop star, Katy Perry, tweeted, “A lot of little girls are in bed right now dreaming for the first time, without limits.  You broke the mold @HillaryClinton.”

Actress, Eva Longoria, who has openly supported Hillary Clinton from the start of her campaign, tweeted “Congrats @HillaryClinton on becoming the first female nominee of any major party in the US! #HistoryMade #ImWithHer.”

Talk Show Host Ellen DeGeneres gave her two cents and tweeted, “I’ve never been prouder to have a woman card@HillaryClinton.”

In addition to the tweets, music icon Barbara Streisand voiced her excitement for Clinton’s history-making nomination as well, stating, "I feel a tremendous rush of pride because this is a woman who is more than qualified to be president.  Isn't it interesting how a barrier seems insurmountable -- until it comes down? I hope girls across the country are thinking, 'That could be me.' And like I said after the first woman got a best director Academy Award, it's about time!"

Three-time Oscar-winning actress, Meryl Streep made it clear where her political loyalties lie at a “Shakespeare in the Park” event in Central Park on Monday night.  Streep donned a fake wig, fake tan and fat suit to portray Trump, drawing appreciative laughter from the audience.

SIMON COWELL PREDICTS GRACE IS, “THE NEXT TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Grace VanderWaal AGT Pre-Audition

Grace VanderWaal AGT Pre-Audition

Earlier this week, a stunned 12-year-old girl from Seffren NY, Grace VanderWaal, took a deep breath and slowly walked onto the stage for her big moment to wow the judges; Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel on NBC's 11th season of, America’s Got Talent.  VanderWaal was sporting a blunt bob, bright yellow jeans with a classic ukulele wrapped around her back.

VanderWaal, appeared to be a typical cute, bit shy, young lady but, no-one would have guessed she was about to steal the show!

Once the Judges started to question VanderWaal, they were the ones who were shocked. VanderWaal portrayed an air of maturity and poise about her that was well beyond her twelve years of life.

Just before VanderWaal performed live, Cowell asked, “Do you believe that you can win?” VanderWaal replied, “I mean; miracles can happen. So, possibly!”  As soon as Grace started to sing and strum her ukulele the crowd was in awe.

(WATCH THE PERFORMANCE HERE)

Before VanderWaal finished the memorable audition the audience was on their feet with a standing ovation. Mandel had a huge smile on his face and told Grace, “You are a living, beautiful, walking miracle. I think the world is gonna your name.”  Then suddenly, Mandel hit the coveted golden buzzer, which took VanderWaal straight through to the “Live Shows.”  As VanderWaal stood their in shock she was showered with gold confetti and an adoring crowd. Cowell went on to tell VanderWaal she was “The Next Taylor Swift.”  Colin may not be far off!  At Grace’s age, Swift had just started to write her own songs and at 16 she released her debut album. VanderWaal just may be following in Taylor’s footsteps!

Here are 5 Reasons why Grace VanderWaal may be the next Taylor Swift...

1) BOTH TAYLOR AND VANDERWAAL WRITE AND PERFORM ORIGINAL MUSIC!

2) VANDERWAAL RESEMBLES A MINI, SWIFT!

3) BOTH TAYLOR AND VANDERWAAL ROCK THE GRANNY CHIC STYLE!

4) BOTH ARTISTS PLAY THE UKULELE!

5) BOTH ARTISTS CONNECT WITH FANS!

Grace is an overnight internet sensation! Just after her AGT Audition aired, VanderWaal’s YouTube channel jumped to 42k subscribers.  Vanderwaal's Twitter account gained 25k followers in the past few days and her Instagram account is almost 50k followers!  Even Rolling Stone contacted Ms. Vanderwaal for an exclusive interview!

Post AGT performance, Mandel told Grace, "I think we found the biggest star in America’s Got Talent history."  NBC posted Grace's AGT audition and the video has already received more than 2 million views!

THE WANNA SHOW will watch the AGT live finals to see if VanderWaal can follow up and win it all!  Will you be watching?

"THE FREE WORLD"

Directed & Written by Jason Lew

Starring:  Boyd Holbrook, Elisabeth Moss and Octavia Spencer.

Mo Lundy (Boyd Holbrook) is an innocent man who went to prison for murders he did not commit.  His time in lock-up changed him, forced him to resort to violence in order to survive, and vilified him as a monster even beyond the prison’s walls.  Now freed, Mo is looking to put the past behind him. He works at a shelter caring for abandoned animals, finds peace in the encouragement from his boss, Linda (Octavia Spencer), and faith in the practice of Islam. But Mo's tenuous stability is again upended when a desperate and blood-soaked woman, Doris (Elisabeth Moss) turns up unexpectedly at his work one night. With the intention of helping her, Mo takes Doris to his apartment. As the truth of Doris’ situation is revealed, Mo realizes that by sheltering her, his newfound freedom is in jeopardy.  Both outsiders, both victims of brutality, the two share a supportive and intimate connection. As that bond deepens and events escalate, Mo and Doris must determine a way towards freedom together or face an unforgiving world alone.

"THE EYES OF MY MOTHER"

Written and directed by NICOLAS PESCE

Starring:  Kika Magalhaes, Will Brill, Clara Wong, Flora Diaz and Olivia Bond

Francisca has been unfazed by death from an early age—her mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, imbued her with a thorough understanding of the human anatomy. When tragedy shatters her family’s idyllic life in the countryside, her deep trauma gradually awakens some unique curiosities. As she grows up, her desire to connect with the world around her takes a distinctly dark form.  Shot in crisp black and white, the haunting visual compositions of THE EYES OF MY MOTHER evoke its protagonist’s isolation and illuminate her deeply unbalanced worldview. Genre-inflected but so strikingly unique as to defy categorization, writer/director Nicolas Pesce’s stunning feature debut allows us only an elliptical presence in Francisca’s world, guiding our imaginations to follow her into peculiar, secret places.

"BRAHMAN NAMAN"

Directed by "Q"

Written by Naman Ramachandran

Starring:  Shashank Arora, Tanmay Dhanania, Sid Mallya, Vaiswath Shankar, Chaitanya Varad, Sindhu Sreenivasa Murthy

It’s the 1980s and Naman (Shashank Arora, star of Cannes hit TITLI) is a know-it-all nerd driven by the whims of his raging hormones. Heading up Bangalore University’s team of bespectacled misfits (best friends Ajay and Ramu), the trio of lusty intellectuals spend the majority of their time on the quizzing circuit, using their winnings to buy nudie magazines, whiskey, and beer, fantasizing about the buxom neighborhood beauty all the while. When the boys qualify for the National Quiz Championships, they make a booze-fuelled train trip across the country determined to defeat their rivals in Calcutta and desperate to lose their virginities along the way.  Unfolding to the tune of the iconic anthem, “Whiskey Bar,” as Naman and his friends run amok against the colorful backdrop of the Indian landscape, his quest for sex and glory is complicated when he finds his intellectual superior in a stunning female quizzer. Directed by Indian filmmaker Q. (known for his controversial cult hit GANDU) BRAHMAN NAMAN is a smart, raucous sex comedy that’s raunchy and endearing in equal measure— replete with innovative masturbation methods that put even Philip Roth’s Alexander Portnoy to shame.

"LOVE SONG"

Co-Writer and Directed by So Yong Kim

Starring:  Jena Malone (The Hunger Games), Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience, Mad Max), Brooklyn Decker (Grace and  Frankie), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color) and Rosanna Arquette.

Using the poetics of naturalism and minimalism in lieu of explicit dialogue and predictable labels, in LOVESONG, Sundance Film Festival alumna So Yong Kim (IN BETWEEN DAYS, TREELESS MOUNTAIN, FOR ELLEN) strips down the central relationship between two familiar but very distant friends, telling a complete story with sometimes no more than a gaze. Neglected by her husband, Sarah (Riley Keough) embarks on an impromptu road trip with her young daughter and her best friend, Mindy (Jena Malone). Along the way, the dynamic between the two friends intensifies before circumstances force them apart. Years later, Sarah attempts to rebuild their intimate connection in the days before Mindy's wedding to Leif (Ryan Eggold). Quietly cinematic and picturesque, and peppered with unexpected supporting turns from the likes of Rosanna Arquette, Brooklyn Decker and Amy Seimetz, LOVESONG is a bittersweet, beautifully modulated love story about muted desire and the grey areas that define every friendship, romance and marriage. 85m.

"KIKI"

Directed by Sara Jordenö    Written by SaraJordenö and Twiggy Pucci Garçon

**2016 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL - U.S. DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION**

**Official Selection - 2016 Berlinale Panorama**

A dynamic coming of age story about agency, resilience and the transformative artform that is voguing, KIKI offers riveting and complex insight into the daily lives of a group of LGBTQ youth-of-color who comprise the "Kiki" scene, a vibrant, safe space for performance created and governed by these activists. Following members of the scene as they prepare for and perform at exuberant Kiki balls in New York City, KIKI highlights the infectious joy of these performances, while also foregrounding the scene's urgent social function as an alternative family structure.   In this film collaboration between Kiki gatekeeper, Twiggy Pucci Garçon, and Swedish filmmaker Sara Jordenö, viewers are granted exclusive access into this high-stakes world, where fierce Ballroom competitions serve as a gateway into conversations surrounding Black- and Trans- Lives Matter movements.  This new generation of Ballroom youth use the motto, "Not About Us Without Us," and KIKI in kind has been made with extensive support and trust from the community, including an exhilarating score by renowned Ballroom and Voguing Producer Collective Qween Beat. Twiggy and Sara's insider-outsider approach to their stories breathes fresh life into the representation of a marginalized community who demand visibility and real political power. 94m.

The Wanna Emmy's Recap!

Gina Giordan

Last night’s Emmys were dominated by a few great shows in an ocean of good television shows.  In a way, they exemplified the age of “peak TV” we live in.  There’s simply too much good TV for us to watch.  Thankfully, there isn’t a lot of great TV.  That’s the one that pertains the Emmys, and those are the shows that ended up winning last night.  Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Olive Kitteridge, Veep, Orange is the New Black, How to Get Away With Murder, and Transparent were definitely the shows to watch in a year of fantastic TV choices. Those were the shows that were rewarded.  A few nods to longevity and likability might have been appreciated by some (Amy Poehler), but it’s hard to disagree. Simply put, the best shows in TV won.

The 67th Emmy Awards last night were a fantastic show that proved television is definitely living its best moment in terms of diversity.  The show wasn’t for everyone, but right from the get go, Andy Samberg made sure to point out Hollywood’s inequality issues in his opening sketch: “He got the gig because he’s seen all the TV there’s out there… and because he’s a white guy.”

Uzo Aduba and Viola Davis’ wins showed that the academy is watching shows with more representation.  The female acting categories were all very tight, but these women’s victories showed that diverse characters are not just pandering for ratings: they’re genuine, critically-acclaimed roles made for diverse actors.  Davis’ brilliant acceptance speech highlighted the fact that without opportunity, women of color wouldn’t be on TV.  She made a call to keep making these opportunities, and making roles for women and people of color in general.  And if you were taking her speech with a grain of salt, here’s a stat that proves Davis is right: Davis is the first black woman in the Emmys’ 67-year history to win the award for best actress in a leading role.

Another surprising win for diversity came with Amazon’s Transparent.  HBO and AMC passed on the series when director Jill Soloway pitched it to them.  Amazon picked it up, and in doing so, they’ve picked up two Golden Globes and two Emmys in just one year.  Jeffrey Tambor was a shoe-in for the Best Comedy Actor category, and he sure as hell got it.

An actor who deserved his award, but had to play the waiting game to get it was the phenomenal actor and professional stud Jon Hamm.  Hamm was nominated for his role as the conflicted and charming ad man, Don Draper, in AMC’s Mad Men a whopping eight times.  He only received the award this year.   Hamm, who also happens to be a fantastic comic talent, tried to joke his way out of receiving his award by saying it was all a mistake.  In all honesty, Hamm had to get the award.  My bet is even the other nominees were rooting for him.

As for Game of Thrones, it seems that Winter has come to Westeros, and it has brought Emmys.  Thrones had received some Emmy love in the past, but never in the “big categories”: Best Writing, Best Directing, and Best Drama.  This year, it won them all.  Not only that, it became the show with the most Emmy wins in a year with an astounding 12 awards.  The previous holder of the title had been The West Wing with nine.  If the past few years were dominated by Breaking Bad and Mad Men, it seems the future is in the hands of HBO.

The only disappointment in the night was the sad reality that Amy Poehler never won an Emmy for her character in Parks and Rec.  Like Steve Carell’s Michael Scott, Poehler’s Leslie Knope will be in TV’s collective mind, but far from Julia Louis Dreyfuss’ (deserved) Emmy love.

In numbers, the night showed how premium cable still is the critics’ and academy’s favorite.  For HBO, it was their best night in years, taking home 14 awards.  In second place came Comedy Central, which thanks to Jon Stewart and Amy Schumer left with 4.  The networks and Netflix?  Let’s just say this wasn’t their year.  Even Amazon had more awards than the networks!  Among the shows that were completely snubbed were the Breaking Bad prequel/sequel Better Call Saul, Netflix’s crown jewel House of Cards, The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, and hype-machine Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. All good shows. Just, not great shows.
